John Dean
John Dean, owner and Broker of TX Rec Land Real Estate, is a sixth-generation Texan with deep roots in hunting, fishing, and ranching. Raised on a working ranch in Central Texas, John brings a lifetime of firsthand land knowledge to his clients. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Renewable Natural Resources and additional studies in Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences and Rangeland Ecology & Management.
John and his wife, Tori, live in Central Texas with their two children, Bridger and Reagan, and their dog, Annie.
From an early age, hunting and fishing were a way of life. John has spent more than 30 years hunting across Central Texas and the Hill Country on both private properties and leases. His experience covers low-fence and high-fence ranches statewide, and he has successfully transformed several small-acreage tracts into productive hunting and agricultural properties.
Before entering real estate full-time, John worked as a fisheries biologist managing private lakes and ponds. His background includes fish stocking, electroshocking surveys, supplemental feeding programs, and aesthetic lake design and improvement.
John specializes in recreational and agricultural real estate and has extensive experience with mineral and water rights throughout Central Texas. Over more than a dozen years in land sales, he has closed transactions ranging from under 5 acres to nearly 1,000 acres and from a few thousand dollars to over $10 million. This broad experience allows him to guide clients through the unique challenges of land transactions—including wildlife management, recreation, ranching, and agricultural operations. His reputation is built on integrity, problem-solving, and getting deals across the finish line.
In 2022, John was recognized in the Aggie 100™, which honors the fastest-growing Aggie-owned companies worldwide. In 2023, TX Rec Land Real Estate was named a top producer in the Land Star Awards for the Southwest region by Land.com.
John is also an FAA-licensed Remote Pilot, allowing TX Rec Land Real Estate to conduct professional drone operations in-house for marketing and property analysis.
He is an active member of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, Rockdale Downtown Association, Texas Wildlife Association, Texas Trophy Hunters Association, Dallas Safari Club, Aggie Real Estate Network, 12th Man Foundation, and the Texas A&M Association of Former Students. John is also a member of the Bryan-College Station Regional Association of REALTORS®, Austin Board of REALTORS®, Houston Association of REALTORS®, Temple-Belton Board of REALTORS®, and San Antonio Board of REALTORS®.
John is based out of the main TX Rec Land Real Estate office in Rockdale, Texas, and focuses primarily on recreational, commercial, and agricultural properties throughout Milam, Falls, Lee, Burleson, Bell, Robertson, Burnet, and Brazos counties. He also oversees and brokers all agents within the firm.
